AIDS, bir retrovirüs olan HIV-1 ve HIV-2 adlı virüslerle oluşan infeksiyonclan aylar ya da yıllar sonra irreversibl T helper hücre hasarına bağlı olarak ortaya çıkan çeşitli fırsatçı infeksiyonlar ve malign hastalıklarla seyreden bir sendrorndur (1, 2, 3).
