In this study, chromosome analysis of 96 premature babies whose weights are less than the age of birth from the babies admitted to the Premature Infant Service of Dicle University Faculty of Medicine Research and Training Hospital, were analyzed and numerical and structural irregularities were determined. As a result of studies conducted with two drops of blood taken from the heel of premature babies between 1-30 days with a micro pipette, the percentage of chromosome irregularities in premature babies was found to be higher than in non-selected babies born consecutively and lower than in babies who were stillborn or died in the perinatal period. In addition, Trisomy-18 Syndrome, which is found as 1/7000 in unselected babies born consecutively, was found with a high rate of 1/96. It has been found that most of the mothers of babies with structural chromosome irregularities have been in contact with mutagenic agents (drugs, disease agents, X-rays and chronic alcoholism) during their pregnancy.
