Diabetic nephropithy is one of the major cause of early mortality among the diabetic patients. In order to reduce the mortality, the prevention of nephropathy and the meticulous control of diabetesz are necessary. Various trials are beige carried out with antihypertensive drugs to control diabetic nephropathy. Although, physiologic or protective role of these drugs is not to be verified in this study. For this, renal changes in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats were intesvigated morphologically at 4 weeks and 8 weeks intervals and the results were compared histologically with those of cilazapril treated strep-tozotocin induced diabetic rats. Cilazapril arrested the nephropathy at early hypey'unction and hyperthropy stage in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. The ratio, of the left kidney weight to body weight of cilazapril treatment received diabetic rats was either similar to 4 weeks old diabetic rats or higher than that of 8 weeks old diabetic rats which was the farther support of nephropathic arrest by the cilazapril treatment. Histologic studies also revealed that glomerular basement membrane thickness, fatty degenerative of epithel cells of tubuli, tubular necrosis. pyelonephritis, and intenstitial fibrozis were conspicuously regressed by cilazapril treatment
