A Descriptive and Cost-Analysis of Infectious Bowel Diseases

In Selok University. Faculty of Medicine, Cli-nical Bacteriology and Infectious Diseases de-partment. 136 patients had treated via hos-pitalization as infectious bowel disease (1BD)from 1 janua•y 1994 to 30 june 1995. 81 % of the patients (59.6 %) were female. 5.1 % of the patients were 18 and below 18. 43.4 % were between 19-39. 28.7 % were between 40-59. 22.8 % were 60 and above. by age. 80 of the 136 patients were diagnosed as Acute gastroenteritis and remaining were Ameobiasis (12), Salnionellosis (14), Shigellosis (18), Salmonella pa-ratyphi (6). Cholera (1), Giardiasis (3) and Chronic gastroenteritis (2). Among all of the cases, 99 pa-tients were determined in first year and 38 patients were determined in last 6 months. Of 37 cases di-agnosed and treated in 1995. 11 cases were fol-lowed in march and 10 cases were followed in june. 83 (f the cases of 1994 and 31 of the cases of 1995 had been lived in the vicinity of the town, Konya. Mean hospitalization time in 1994 was 7.7±0.5 days, and in 1995 was 6.0 ±0.8 days. The longest du-ration of hospitalization time was belonged to the Salmonella inji•ction as 11.4 days. The cost of the ill-ness per patient in 1994 was 95 $ and was 115 $ in 1994.
