Addition of ondansetron ot rnetoclopramide to patient controlled analgesia

In this study, 60 women who had undergone gynecologic operations or laparo~ies ımder ge-neral anaesthesia allocated randonly into three groups (which had 20 patients each) ta receive patient-controlled analgesia with either meperidine combined 141th antiemetics (in group one with on-dansetron and group two with metoclopramide) m-meperidine alone (group 3-placebo). Bolus doses of meperidine 20 mg, and ondansetron 0,5 nig or me-toclopramide 2,7 mg ?vere used with a lockout time of 5 min. During the first 24 h after surgery the mean (range) dose of ondansetron in the on-dansetron group was 2,9 ± 0,9 nıg and me-toclopramide in the metoclopramide group 14,5 ± 4,3 mg. Signıficantly ftwer patients in ondansetron and mewclopramide groups had nausea (P<0,01 and 0,05 respectively). Side effects were not ob-served in any patient. Significantly More patient had the opinion that patient controlled analgesia had provided excellent analgesia when antiemetics were used.
