Adult respiratory distress syndrome is an advanced degree of distressing respiratory failure in adults. Various factors play a role in this clinical picture. Although respiratory failure associated with trauma and shock has been reported since the beginning of the twentieth century, the definition of respiratory distress seen in adults is very recent. In 1967, Asbaugh et al. Described this entity with its clinical and physiopathological features.
