An Epidemiyologic and Cost-Analysis of Viral Hepatitis

During the period of 18 months between 1 Ja-nuary 1994 and 30 June 1995, 166 cases were hos-pitalized as viral hepatitis in Selguk University Me-dical Faculty, Department of Infectious Diseases. 86 of the cases (51.8 %) were male There were 41 pa-tients (24.7 %) in and below 18 years old, 83 pa-tients (50%) between 19-39 years old, 26 patients (15.7 %) between 40-59 years old and 16 patients (9.6 %) in and above 60 years old. Number of the whole cases in 1994 were 105 and 53 of them (50.5 %) were male. Total number of cases in 1994 were 61 and 36 of them (59 %) were female. Of the cases, 122 (73.5 %) were from city-center of Konya, 35 (21.1 %) were. from vicinity of Konya and 9 (5.4 %) were from out of Konya. When one evaluate the cases as monthly in 1994, it can he seen that june was to had the lowest number of the cases (4 cases),and on the other hand, in 1995, January was to had the highest number of the cases (22 cases). Types of the cases were tested with HBsAg, Anti HBc 1gM, HBeAg, Anti-HBe, Anti-HBs, Anti-HAV 1gM, Anti-HDV, Anti-HCV. According to the results of these tests, the types couldn't been determined in 66 (39.8 %) of the cases. Among the remaining cases, 67 cases (40.4 %) were Hepatitis B. 11 cases (6.6 %) were Hepatitis A, 8 cases were (4.9 %) Chronic active hepatitis, I case (0.6 %) was Delta hepatitis, 3 cases (1.8 %) were Fulminant hepatit, I case (0.6 %) was Lupoid Hepatit and 5 cases (3 %) were considered as Liver paranchym disease. Mean hospitalization time was 13.5 days in 1994 and 16.7 days in 1995. The longest mean hos-pitalization time in 1994 was belonged to Hepatitis B as 16.5 days and in 1995 it was also belonged to Hepatitis B as 18.6 days. The cost of the illness per a person in 1995 was 250$.
