Fine Needleaspiration Biopsy of the Thyroid

We have performed 48 fine needleaspiration biopsy to the nodular lesions of the thyroid gland, the cytologic resuüs were compared with the histopathologic diagnosis and the spesificty, sensitivity and the diagnosiic accuracy offine needle aspiration biopsy were evaluated. In conclusion, fine needle aspiration biopsy is reliable in nodular thyroid disease and should be performed to provide unnecessary thyroidectomies in patients with benign thyroid disease.
