In this study, the effects of lumbar epidural anal-gesia on the umbliral blood plı, blood gases and apgar acore of the newborn were investigated. For !his purpose, the cases were divided into three gro-ups, in the first group, lumbar epiclıtral analgesia was applied during labor by giving 0.25'% of bu-pivacain to 20 cases. In the second group lumbar epidural analgesia was arhieved by giving 0.125 % bupivacain + 50 microgram fentanyl to 20 cases. A control group (third group) consisted of 20 cases were not giyen analgesia hefore labor. When com-pared with those of controls aridemia of the umb-lical arterial blood was significantly lower in the group who had epidural analgesia. However there was no significant dillerence between the groups in which epidural analgesia was applied. The results were discussed on the basis of literature data.
