The importance of Vocal Ford Paralysis in Thyroid Surgery

In recent years, a better understanding of the relationship between the recurrent nerve and the thyroid gland has led to a decrease in the rate of vocal cord paralysis, which is a complication of thyroid surgeries. However, the frequently variable anatomical course of the recurrent nerve requires the routine identification of this nerve during thyroid surgery, so the thyroid surgeon must acquire this skill. In order to contribute to the subject, the anatomy suitable for surgical trauma (..) and recommended indentification methods of the recurrent nerve were reviewed. We focused on clinical boards and their precautions due to recurrent nerve trauma.
