Thyroid Screening in Health Centers in Konya and in Hospital Staff of Selçuk University Medical Faculty

Selçuk University Medical Faculty staff and people of some health eenters in Konya (Mevlana, 1 Hasanköy. Aydınlıkevler, Binkonut, Karaaslan and Apa village) were examined by palpation of thyroid gland and a specific questionnaire form. 1190 female and ınale people, who were older than 15 years and were selected by lzaphazard method, were entered the study. Thyroid hyperplasia occurance was found ta be 13.6% in Imal. 18.2% of women and 6.96% of men had thyroid hyperplasia. Although the iodine concentration of drinkingutilizing waters in Konya was 12.5 ± 6.25 mcgIL, thyroid hyperplasia is slill a health problem today. We suggest the iodine salt in prophylaxis.
