Cerebrospinal fluid alkaline phosphatase enzyme level was investigated in this research for the differential diagnosis of meningitis. Cerebrospinal fluid alkaline phosphatase enzyme levels were de-terrnined en a group of 58 pediairic cases which were constituted of 30 normal individuals, 14 pa-'lents with bacterial meningitis and 14 patients with aseplic meningitis. In the normal group, the levels of alkaline phosphatase in cerebrospinal fluid ıvere estimated as 0,13 ± 0,8 Kuld.I.The values of alkaline phosphatase levels in bacterial and aseptic meningitis were obtained as 1,33 ± 0,78 KU/ dl, 0,29 ± 0,12 KUM], respectively. In cases of bacterial meningitis, a significant difference was founcl in comparison to the other groups which normal group and aseplic meningilis group (p<0,001). Based on these findings its is concluded that the determinations of alkaline phosphatase levels in the cerebrospinal fluid are helpful in differentiating bacierial from aseptic meningitis, especially in the cases which were negative cultures.
