Cerebrospinal fluid lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) enzyme levet was investigated in this research for the differential diagnosis of bacterial and aseptic meningitis. LDH enzyme levels in CSF were determined in a group of 58 pediatric cases which were constituted of 30 normal imdividuals, 14 patients with bacterial meningitis and 14 patients with aseptic meningitis. The values of CSF LDII levels in normal group, bacterial meningitis group and aseptic meningitis group were obtained as 25,02 ±9 ,47 IUIL, 119,26 ±41,34 IUIL, ± 0 ÷ ,61 IUIL, respectively. In the levels of LDH enzyme ,in CSF of bacterial meningitis cases, a significant difference was found in comparison to the other groups which were normal individuals and aseptic meningitis cases (p<0,001).Based on these findings, it is concluded that the determinations of LD11 levels of CSF are helpful in differentiating bacterial from aseptic meningitis.
