Comparative evaluation of early and late pos-toperative results of Björk-Shiley-convexo- con-cave and Sorin all-carbon proteti heart valves on mitral position

A total of 122 consecutive patients underwent valve replacement with a Sjörk-Shiley-Convexo-Concave (BSCC) and Sorin Allearhon (SA) prostheses from Au-gust 1, 1990 through. June 30, 19%. ,4 total of 102 pa-tients had a mitral valve replacement with SA, others had mitral valve replacement with BSCC at Selçuk Universty Hospital. AlI survivors were prospeetively lallowed hy regular clinical examinations every 3 months lbr 5 years. The mean follow-up time was 32 months_ Overall hospital mortality ?vere 5.8 % for pa-tients with SA and 15 % for patients with BSCC. Res-pectivel- lale mortality was due to thromhoemholic events (n=6), sudden death (n=3), noneardiae death (n=1 ). Khi square test eAplained that thromhotic events was a different hetween SA and BSCC (P=0.425, P<0.05). Khi square test explained that there was a significant difierent ahout late mortality rate hetween SA and BSCC (P=0.218, P<0.05). The er-hocardiographic study was carried out on 92 cases (17 BSCC. 75 SA). During the first months of ohservation no sık-nificant an actuarial differences hetween there rnec-hanical pı-ostheses could he ohserved however, afteı- 5 years of long - term follow-up the actuarial rates vere ınore favorahle for the BSCC pı-osthesis.
