Objective: Purpose of this study was to use imaging methods which is cheaper and offering less radiation dousage for determination of alveol clefts. Fort his purpose, perapical and oclussal plane X-rays are used in this study, which are widely used by dentists for diagnosis of dental pathologies. Patients and methods: Elevenpatients with unilateral alveol clets was operated with seconder otogen iliac and allogenic cansellous bone grafts between 1998 and 2004. Bone defects was measured by NetCAD program with periapical and oclussal graphies pre operatively. Bone wax was used for per operative measurement and real size has been obtained. Late period control graphies was obtained with the same rontgenograms between post operative 6 months and 1 year. Lost bone volume and ossification were determined. Result: We think that periapical and oclussal graphies are easier procedures and may be used instead of CT for follow up in alveol clefts. Additional advantages are exposure to lower doses of radiation and low prices.
