With an isolated rat aorta, Ba2+ used al a cumulative concentraiion created a dose-clependent contraction. This contraction is inhibited by verapamil. in a medium containing no Ca2+, it caused Utile but significant contraction compared ta the responses of control group. This contraction isn't inhibited by verapamil. Findings suggest that Ba2+ caused contraction by increasing the extracellular Ca2 + entry and alsa contributed to the intracellular processes.
