Effects of high doses vitamin A on liver

The effects of excess all-trans retinoic acid on liver tissue were investigated in this study. Tvvelve adult male VVistar rats were used. The animal were divided into three groups. I. group: 20 mg/kg/day all-trans retinoic acid was given to rats (n:4) by oral gavage, during 15 days II.group: 40 mg/kg/day all-trans retinoic acid was given to rats (n:4) by oral gavage, during 15 days III.group: Pats were used as control (n:4) End of experimental study, rats were killed under ether anesthesia. Liver tissues were taken and fixed with Boin’s solution for light microscobic observation. Paraffin blocks were prepared and 5 mm sections were stained diffrent methods. Later, sections were examined with ligth microscope. İn the experimental groups, the cytoplasms of hepatocytes in the peripheral zone of liver lobules were stainless. Excess celi infiltration which were considered activated Kupffer cells, observed at the peripheral zone. Moreover, hepatic lobule structure of experimental groups were destroyed This findings were more serious for intake 40 mg/kg/day all-trans retinoic acid rats.
