Effects of truncal (TV) and proximal gastric vagotomy (PGV) on secretin secretion, 15 in TV., 13 in PGV. It has been investigated in 28 dogs. Secretin secretion was stimulated by administering 0.1 N. HCL to the duodenum, and secretin levels in the portal plasma were determined by RIA method just before this stimulation and at the 3rd, 5th, 10th, 15th, 30th and 45th minutes following the stimulation. When the results obtained before, immediately and one month after vagotomy were compared, it was found that the groups gave different responses to HCI perfused into the duodenum. Immediately after TV, response to duodenal acidification in secretin secretion was found to be significantly less, whereas a significant increase was observed in the response one month later, but this increase was not enough to reach the pre-operative level. Responses in the group with PGV were affected by surgery in the early stage, a decrease was found in the late stage of the response one month later.
