Ejjects of Mn2+ and Cd2+ vere investigated on the contracture induced hy I mM CaCl2 in the iso-lated frog lower oesophageal circular segments in-cuhated irt Ca2+ free Ringer solution containing 20 mM KCl and 0.01 mM Na2EDTA, Roth Mn2+ and Cd2+ inhibited the contractures in a can-•entration dependent manner. Cd2+ was found to be more patent than Mn2+ on the Ca2+ induced c:ont-racture. These findings indicated that Cd2+ and Mn2+ can block Ca2+ entry from extracellular space ta intracellulat- compartment.
