Evaluation of discrimination ability and mental capacities examined court case criminal children in Konya Forensic Medicine Divisional Directorateship

In this study, 479 criminal children were sent to Forensic Medicine Divisional Directorateship for their discrimination and mental capacities to be sulted for child correction institutions. Twenty five children were out of the age range of examination of disc-rimination and mental capacity. Remaining 454 sub-jects were largely males (96.5 %). The large per-centage of criminal ages were 15 (39.7 %) and 14 (33.9 %) years of age. The most attempted erime was steeling and burglary (54.4 %). Of those 96.6 % were the age of discrimination and mental capacity and knowing attempted to the crimes. Twenty sub-jects, although they had the ages older than 11 years old, were below the discrimination and mental ca-pacity level. Among them two (10.0 %) were mentally retarded. Ten subjects (50.0 %) were inclined to at-tempt criminal temptations due ta their fawer socio-economic cultural type of living. Of those, six (30.0 %) of thern were lacking behind the psychobiological developments and unaware of the judgement of their criminal acts. The remaining two (10.0 %) subjects were deaf and dumb, and they were considered to have low level of discriminative ability and mental ca-pacity. This study when compared ta similar studles carried out else where in Turkey, it can be concluded that the type of erime attempted and the ratio of disc-riminative and mental capacity were of similar.
