Evaluation of the Children Who Were Admitted to Psychiatry Department in a Year

Sociodemographic and clinical features of 226 children, who were admitted to the outpatient clinic of psychiatry department of Selcuk University for the first time, between september 1993-and september 1994. were analyzed retrospectively. The purpose of this study is to reveal the problems of an adult psychiatrist when he come face to face with the children in a condition where female. Most of the children were between 12-14 years old and were the first child of the family. The patients admitted to the clinic mostly because of their parents regrests. The second reason of admittance was other physicians consultation request for female, and legal report for male. The differance was significant (p<0.05). Main complaints were enuresis, mental retardation, con-duct disorder, developmental articulation disorder for males, and somatic. depressive and conversive for females_ The differents was statistically sig-nificantly (p<0.05). As a result, 226 first admissions to a clinic in-dicates the need to a child psychiatrist in this dist-rict.
