Between February 1993 and September 1993 12 extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy treatments was performed for bladder stones in department with the Dornier MPL 9000 lithotriptör. The treatments are petformend without the use of anesthesia and on an outpatient basis. 27 sessions were apliedför 12 patients.Meantrecament duration was 86.6 minutes. Mean number of shock waves was 2361. The stones were located by fluoroscopy in 20 cases and ultrasonography in 7 cases. There were complete success in all patients. Minute fragmentation was obtained and uncomplicated eva-luation ocurred without the needfor adjuvantprocedures even in the presence of prostatic hypertrophy. We concluded that ESWL to be a safe treatment performed without the use of anesthesia on an outpatient basis.
