Family Planning: Traditional And Modern Methods

To puth forward the rates of using contraceptive methods and to find out relationships of used methods with age, parity, cigarette smoking. In our study, 906 patients were analysed retrospectively who applied to family planning clinic between January 2010 - January 2013. Contraceptive methods age, duration of marriage, parity, number of curretage, cigarette smoking behaviours were evaluated. Contraceptive methods were classified as coitus interruptes, condom, intrauterine device (IUD), oral contraceptives, other hormonal contraceptive methods and tubal sterilisation. For analysis of datas, SPSS version 16 was used. The rate of using contraceptive method was 85%. Fourty eight percent of patients were using a modern contraceptive method. Coitus interruptes was the mostly used family plannning method with a rate of 37%. In turn, intrauterin device (17.5%), condom (17%), oral contraceptives (6.5%), tubal sterilisation (3.8%) and hormonal contraceptive injections (3.2%) were following coitus interruptes method. In patient under 35 years old group mostly used method was condom, oral contraceptives and coitus interruptes; while in patient group below 35 years old IUD, contraceptive injections and tubal sterilisation was the mostly used methods. In our region, the rate of using anyone of contraceptive method was higher than the Turkey’s data. But rate of using a modern contraceptive method was near to mean data of Turkey. In society, conciousness of family planning may have been increased with face to face education programmmes. Especially, patient group of using coitus interruptes method must be rendered concious about modern family planning methods.
