The results of fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) which was pelformed in 142 patients with thyroid lesions in 18 month-period were evaluated and histopathological results of 46 cases who had surgical intervention were compared to their cytological examinations. The accuracy of FNAB in diagnosis was found 95.6%. In two cases the results were false positive. We suggest that FNAB should be more commonly applied in thyroid lesions, especially in nodular ones. In Turkey where thyoid diseases are frequent, and other diagnostic laboratory methods are expensive.
