Bleeding can not be absolutely terminated in spite of conventional techniques of hemostasis. In order to investigate the effect of Ankaferd Blood Stopper® (ABS) on persisting bleeding after conventional hemostasis, we applied topical ABS spray or plasebo on orthognatic surgery (n=19). Substances were applied to the surgical field after conventional methods of hemostasis. In orthognatic surgery group, the association of blood loss with the operation type, age, gender, ABS usage, duration of operation and blood pressure was analyzed. The rates of Hb and Htc decline was % 25 in ABS group and % 19 (Hb), % 20 (Htc) in placebo group. The only significant association was with gender indicating a higher blood loss with being male (p=0,01). In conclusion, this study did not reveal any ABS effect on bleeding from the surgical site persisting after conventional hemostasis.
