This study is a epidemiologic investigation performed on a group of medical school students of Sel-çuk Universty Between January and June. 1995. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia among the medical stu-dents and factors that affect this. Randomly selected 62 female and 58 male students involved in the study. Complete blood counts including erythrocyte indexes, serum iron, serum iron hinding capacity, ferritin. vitamin B12 and folic acid rneasurements and evaluation of o•cult blood and parasite irr jeces vere done. The prevalence of anemia was 32.25 % in fermale students 5.17 % in male students as a re-sult of the study. Mfean hemoglobin value was 12 .8± 1.3 gidi in females, 14.85 ± 1,25 gidi in males and anemia was more common in females, this difference was statistically significant (p<0.001 ). Considering age and sociodemographic properties of the studuy group, it becomes eviclent that iron de-ficiency anemia is an important health problem.
