In this article the restdts of a research study the relations between jealousy-divorce murdering the spouse done hy Psychian-ic Speciality Committee of the Supreme Council of Forensic Medicine of Turkey aı-e discussed.From 242 cases (207 male and 35 lemale) examined hy the Committee, the 138 were found as not possessing penal respons.ihility for psychiatric ı-easons; on the other hand, the rest 104 cases were accepted tü possess a full res-ponsibility tovvards the erime the)' committed. The main goal of the study was the determination of the percentage of the criıninals, who. before committing the erime had attempted to divorce their spouses. These people were forced to continue their common maı-ital life, eithe• becatıse their attemptsr were re-jected by the Court as not heing based on an ac-curate cause, ni- their wishes for divor-ce were found tü be unsuitable with te current social norms by their families. it is ve)); interesting tü find that. in both groups -sane or insane, responsible or ir-responsible- about the same percentage of 41. before conımitting crimes. tried to prevent themselves fr onı becoming murderers and their spouses Irom being kil-led, hy trying to get divorced. From this point of view. it is put forward that, such cases in which jealous people -sane ni" in-sane- reach to the point of asking for divorce, ac-cepting it will prohahly have a positive qffect on the prevention of such crimes.
