140 cases of lower extremity deep vein thrombosis were hospitalised and trealed at our clinic between the years of 1983 and 1989. Bed rest with leg elevation and heparanization were applied to 137 cases (%97.9), 3 cases (%2.1) had surgical treatment (thrombectomy). Treattrıent in 127 patients otu of 137 were satisfactory, and ampulation ampuiation operation over the knees was carried out at 4 cases (%2.85) of phlegmasia cerulea dolens. °iller 5 cases of phlegmasia cerulea dolens responded to medical treatment and related extrernities did not need to be amputaled. After the complation of oral anticoagulation treatment we found a post thrombophlebitis syndrome in 22 patients (9;35.7) at the controls that were carried out every 6 mounth.
