In this study, the number of mast cells vere investigated in smears from thirty Lippes loops and fifteen cupper loaded intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUD). Under the light microscope the presence of the mast cells and the increment of the cell number in one over seven cases which IUD reınained in uterus for less than 3 months have been cleared out. As a result of this, the effects of mast cells on IUD action mechanism and a correlation between the number of mast cells ıvith the remaining duration of Cu++ loaded IUD in uterus is considered.
