The aim of this study is to present a severe Class III openbite case treated by a combined orthodontic-orthognathic approach. The patient was a 22 year old female with severe Class III, mandibular prognathia, maxillary retrognathia, the upper midline deviation, 4mm open bite and maxillary-mandibular discrepancy. Damon system, a passive self-ligating system, was applied for the orthodontic treatment. After fixed appliance treatment, bimaxillary orthognathic surgery was performed to correct maxillary-mandibular discrepancy. More aesthetic and stabile results are achieved by orthodonticsurgery combination at the treatment of a severe skeletal Class III case with openbite. Damon system offers extra advantages such as self-ligating brackets in controlling friction, increasing patient comfort, lessening the number of appointments and potentially reducing chair-time and treatment time.
