It has been reported different results about the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with psoriasis. In several studies, although the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori was reported to be increased, in some studies it could not be shown same results. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection and the association between disease activity and infection in patients with psoriasis. A total of 11 (8 male, 3 female) patients with psoriasis and 23 healthy controls (18 male, 5 female) were included in the study. Helicobacter pylori infection was diagnosed with biopsy which was obtained from the antrum and the body of stomach or with urea breath test. Before and after Helicobacter pylori eradication, disease activity was revealed with psoriasis area severity index. Sequential eradication regimen was preferred treatment for helicobacter pylori. Urea breath test was used to evaluate the eradication after the treatment Nine (% 82) of 11 patients with psoriasis had positivity for Helicobacter pylori while 11 subjects (% 47,8) of 23 had positivity for Helicobacter pylori in the control group. After the eradication treatment, Helicobacter pylori were negative in six patients. Four patients returned for follow-up visits and psoriasis area severity index had significantly resolved in only one of them. In conclusion, however the number of patients is so not much, in this study the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori was observed to be more frequent in patients with psoriasis but no association between disease activity and infection was found. Further studies are needed to show the association between disease activity and Helicobacter pylori infection.
