Psychiatric disorders and psychological stress has been implicated as a potential trigger in onset and exacerbation of dermatological diseases. Additionally, skin diseases have often been found to be associated with anxiety, depression and impaired quality of life. Therefore, it may be considered that there are a reciprocal influence between psychiatric status and skin diseases. Although significant majority of the cases begin before adulthood, limited data are available about relationship between skin disease and psychiatric morbidity in childhood and adolescence. In this article, psychodermatologic disorders in these age groups and our current scientific knowledge on these disorders will be discussed.
