The lungs provide oxygenation of the organism and the removal of carbon dioxide from the body. Maintaining myth base balance and regulating the arterial concentration of many vasoactive hormones are provided by this organ. Under normal conditions, the lungs work under a moderate mechanical stress and against a low arterial pressure system, and the lymphatic system is highly developed, allowing it to perform its functions more easily. However, it has been demonstrated that if the lungs are under more stress than their capacity, a series of events can develop that can affect all the systems of the organism and ultimately lead to death. This condition, which can develop for many etiological reasons, is called Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS).
