We investigated the serum selenium levels in 37 patients with acute myocardial infarction (Group I) and in 33 healthy people (Group II). The mean levels of selenium in both groups were 49.340.906 pgl L and 70.849±12.868 pgiL, respectively. There was significant difference between two groups (p<0.01). There was no relationship between selenium levels and sex, smoking and hypertension. The selenium levels showed decrease in patients older than sixty compared to those under sixty (p<0.05). In conclusion, we found that there was meaning relationship between serum selenium levels and cora onary artery disease. In order to describe the relation-ship we need prospective clinical and experimental studies with more detail.
