The essential feature of this disorder is a marked inzpairment in speech fluency characterized by frequent repetitions or prolongations of so. unds or syllables. [Ip until now it has been considered to be a neurotic condition, a learned behavior or structurel disorder. Never the lens, the cause of this disorder has not been established for certain.In (his study to onlighten the etiology of (his condition dıllerences related to sex has been investigated. With (his aim medical records of 45 children diagnosed as stuitering, has been reviewed, differences documented and compared. in statistical calculations t-test has been used. As a rest& of this study it has been found that in females emotional trauma prior to illness, family history of psychiatric disorder and family disharmony vere significantly more abundant compared to males. These results suggest that in stuttering emotional factor may be presipitating or etiological factors in females more so than males.
