Apnea is a frequently observed condition in newborn intensive
care units. Especially in premature cases, it may be a sign of a
serious disease or may be observed due to immature control of
respiratory system. When central apnea is thought in the patient,
central nervous stimulants are given, however if no response is seen
mechanical ventilation support is applied. In this article, a premature
case which received caffeine therapy due to central apnea however
developed supraventricular tachycardia as treatment complication
was reported and careful use of these stimulants was emphasized.
