Surgical therapy for benign parotid tumors

Because the technique of enucleation and incomplete excisions, 50 years ago recurrence rates after surgical re- moval of tumors, especially pleomorfic adenomas ranged betvveen 21% and 70% . Today, surgery for bening pa­ rotid tumors has evolved into a procedure that is both effective and safe. The advent of facial nerve Identification and preservation with tumor removal with a adequate amount of surrounding healthy parotid tissue, occurred in the early 1940s as a true change in philosophy. The operation, termed superficial parotidectomy, is no w accepted by the majority of otolaryngologists. İn this article 23 patient that had benign parotis tumors was presented. Sur­ gical therapy and techniques discussed vvith literatüre, l/Ve shovv that superficial parotidectomy is the better tec- nique for benign parotis tumors.
