The Alanagement of Tihiai shaft Fraclures

A retrospeetive study was done of the treatrnent of closed and open fractures of the tibia in 133 patients with 140 fractures. These patients vith shafi fractures of tibia were treated at the Department of Orthopaedics and Trawıatology of the Selçuk Oniversitiy Hospital, between 1983 and 1989 The mean oge al initiation of treatrnent was 32 years. Their ages ranged from 13 to 72 years old. ln all, 96 fractures were closed and 44 were opera. Traffic accidents were the most cause of the injury. In 96 patients, the tibial fracture was the only inju.ry, i,x 37 patients other injuries also were present. 7 patients had bilaterall tibial fractures. The patients were followed al least unlu/ to clinical and radiographical union of the fracture. Iri (his series, the overall succes rates in healing of the fractures with open and closed method_v were highly satisfactory
