The presence of sperm antibodies reacting with antigens on the spermatozoa in sera and reproductive tracts can cause agglutination ör cornplement-dependent irnrnobilization of sperm ör both, resulting in a reduction of !heir fertilizing capasiiy. Antisperrn antibodies are belong to two irnrnunolojical classes: IgA and IgG antibodies. There are some data indicating that IgA is clinically more importarzt than IgG antibodies. However, IgA antibodies never occur without IgG antibodies. Therefore, testing for IgG antibodies is sufficient as a routine screening method. We examined the ELISA method for the detection of antisperm antibodies in the sera of infertile women and men.
