Almost all of the thyroid diseases, which are rather common in our society, are curable, therefore it brings the necessity of early, east, not harmful and economic methods for the diagnosis. The diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases have gained a new perspective with use of high-resolution realtime ultrasonography in superficial organs and tissue. In this study, scintigraphic and ultrasonographic findings of 57 cases, in which scintigraphy and ultrasonography was used and histopathological results which were proven with surgery were compared with surgery findings. Although 2 false negative cases were been in ultrasonography, 18 false negative cases were observed in scintigraphy. It was found that the sensitivity of ultrasonography was 96%, while it was found 68% in scintigraphy. In both methods no false positive cases were observed The studies which have been done formerly and our' results give the impression that in diagnosis of thyroid diseases, ultrasonography which is not harmful, cheap, noninvasive, nonionized, easily applicable and highly sensitive, is a radiologic-rnethod of diagnosis which is necessary to be used firstly and routinely.
