The blue and white fluorescent larnbs are usually use d in the treatment of neonatal hyperblirubinernia. Invivo lymphocyte culture of blood samples from the exposed neonates were studied for sister chromatid exchange (SCE) frequencies. The patients were divided into two groups according to the light sources that were used. Each group coniained 15 palients. Also, 15 normal healthy neonates were included without treatinent as a control group in this study. The effect of light sources on the SCE rate was detertnined before and after the light treatments and compared with those of control group. This study shows that blue and white flourescent light sources did not signıficantly alter the SCE rate in in-vivo lymphocyie culture of the blood samples obtained from hyperblirubinemic patients.
