It is generally açcepted that distance of the bulging is affected by flexion and extension motion of the lumbar spine. The degenerative changes of the lumbar disc in the L44,5 and 1.5-S1 kvels in 20 patients, 39 levels were reviewed using computed tomographic scans in order to determine the relationship between bulging and flexion-extension motion of the lumbal spine. In the flexion, vertebra-disc distance (VD) has decreased in 16 (%47) levels, in the extension, VD has decreased in 32 (%94) levels. VD has increased in 18 (%53) levels in the flexion, and in the extension VD has increased in 5 (%100) levels with herniated disc.
