The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunt systems, possesses an important place in the treatment of hydrocephalus. İn practical use, the pumping mechanism of this shunt systems is used as a criteria to follovv- up the shunt function by neurosurgeons. İn this study, we analysed 103 cases treated with ventriculoperitoneal (V-P) shunt for hydrocephalus between 1990 and 99 in our clinic. Our study has demonstrated that, the pumping character of the shunt has not been correlated with the clinical situation of the patı'ents. IVe have concluded that, this examination (which is used by many neurosurgeon) is not an effective method in practical use.
