Alkali burns of the cornea can result in loss of vi-sual function and anatomical integrity of the eye. In the present study, we evaluated the effect of topical dexamethasone sodium phospate and diclofenac so-dium on wound healing in an akali-burn model using 36 eyes of 18 adult albino rabbits. No dic ference was noted between the effects of two drugs on epithelial healing and fibroblast proliferation, but inflammatory cell infiltration was more pro-minent in the group treated with diclofenac sodium. Our data suggest that dexamethasone sodium phosp-hate is more potent than diclofenac sodium in the treatment of corneal alkali burns.
