Extracapsular spread of lymph node metaitases ir believed to be an indicator of poor prognosis. in general it has been thought that extracapsular spread was limited to the 'fixed" nodes. The patients whose lesions had extracapsular spread had statistically reduced numbers of survival. Other factors eg, tumor dillerantiation and the number of malignant nodes ellects on prognosis. The effect of extracapsular spread on staging, the reporting of retrospective reviews and therapy are discussed.
