In this in vitro study, the inhibitory effects of pi-naverium bromide and the calcium antagonists such as veraparnil and diltiazem were investigated on carbachol-induced contractions in isolated guinea-pig stomach fundus. The strips were mounted in organ baths con-taining Krebs-Henseleit solution and contracted with 104 M carbachol. The contractions induced witht carbachol showed a dose-dependent re-laxations by addition of cumulative concentration (10-9-104M) of each antagonist. The results suggest that in isolated guinea-pig stomach frnclus the contractions induced by car-bachol were inhibited by antagonists significantly and the rank order of potencies of these antagonists measured as the IC so was pinaverium=verapamil> diltiazem (P<0.05).
