The Results of Farnsworth-Munsell (FM) 100 Hue Test in Diabetic Retinopathy

Aim: The late complications of diabetes mellitus (DM) threaten the eye and cause blindness. Therefore the early diagnosis has significant importance. Our aim is to evaluate the eye and cause blindness. Therefore the early diagnosis has significant importance. Our aim is to evaluate the value of Farnsworth-Munsell (FM) 100 hue test which is used for retinopathy diagnosis in DM patients. Material and method: FM 100 hue test was performed on, 186 eyes of 100 DM patients which were admitted to Ophthalmology Outpatient Department of Meram Medical faculty, Selcuk University and Turkish Diabetes Society outpatient department. Fort he control group 60 eyes of 30 healthy subjects were tested. The results were evaluated by quadrant analysis method. X2 test was used as statistical method and P<0.05 was accepted as significant. Results: When results were compared, there was a significant difference for the degree of the deterioration of the color vision in DM patients which was correlated with the progression and the duration of the disease. The dominant colour vision defect was blue-yellow type. Conclusion: It was concluded that, functional loss occurs before diabetic retinopathy lesions ocur and FM 100 hue test is a valuable method for early diagnosis.
