Aprotinin, the serine proteaz inhibitor, has been used in cardiopulmonary bypasses. It is supposed to reduce blood loss by preserve platelet functions which contacts foreign surfaces. 15 patients un-dergoing thoracic or cardiac operations were given low dose aprotinin. Its blood saver effect were seen a thoracic operations as effective as cardiac ones. IT seems that aprotinin can preserve the functions of platelets which dont contact any foreign surfaces.
