The vascular access path is important in cancer patients who need long-term intravenous treatment. With this partial application port named, long-term intravenous application could be performed, and changes were made in the structure and application of these catheters with the over the years. Between January 2006-August 2010, 235 cancer patients underwent permanent venous port were retrospectively reviewed in our clinic. Patients’ age were ranged from 28-82 (mean 45±3). 132 patients were female, 103 were male. All attempts to port catheter performed under local anesthesia in the operating room, monitoring. The total number of days that remained attached to the port for 235 patients ranged from 11-1997 days (mean 603 days). The clinical use of intravenous port catheters has increased, and the importance of them every day to increase. Especially, in patients’ vascular access inappropriate, these catheters used safely. Installing the port by experts, be careful in Huber needle use, than more 10 cc of injector volume, and the port has been inserted after the evaluation of imaging methods, detection of skin under the best of use of the sterile period, and the use of heparin made by persons experienced with the washing process also will extend the life of the catheter and will improve patient comfort.
