Clear evidence could not be obtained until recently for effects of static or pulsed electromagnetic fields which are used for the treatment of several disorders and complications. General consensus and standardized protocols are lacking for different techniques and modalities used in applications of therapeutic magnetic fields in the area of medicine. At high frequencies, heating effect becomes dominant and the effect of magnetic field is suppressed. Thus, particularly low-frequency pulsed electromagnetic fields has been reported to be effective with promising results in a number of diseases and disease models.In thecurrent compilation, in vitro / in vivo various treatment protocols for investigating positive effects of low frequency electromagnetic field and their results are presented, contrasting negative effects of high frequency electromagnetic field often reported in literature.
